Burnham week is 23rd to 30th August this year and it’s the last major regatta of the season.

This yacht regatta has been running since 1893 when some racing men from Erith on the Thames travelled to Burnham and were impressed bythe unpolluted river, deep-water moorings at all states of the tide, and the wide undeveloped estuary. The prizes are now glassware decorated with the Joint Clubs' Committee insignia. The committee includes representatives of the four clubs in Burnham.

Sailors, spectators and visitors can enjoy the excitement of close quarter’s tidal river racing in some of the most challenging sailing waters the East Coast has to offer.

This year all the starts are taking place from Pile House so take a walk downriver past the Royal Corinthian Yacht club and sit on the sea wall to watch all the starts and view the fleets lining up river.

A full list of all the social events held within the Clubs during Burnham week is on the Burnham Week website with links to the Clubs for booking into events. www.burnhamweek.org.uk

On the Bank Holiday there is an Art Exhibition at the Burnham Museum (between the Crouch Yacht Club and Burnham Sailing Club on the Quayside.)

Whilst the racing is underway you could head up to the High Street to check out local businesses like Tall Green House, Bunters Deli, and The Lovely Shop. You could also have a coffee or a meal at the Quayside Bistro or a beer in the pubs along the front.

On the final event day of Saturday 31st August, there will be the infamous ‘Duck Race’ and the Burnham Week Firework display.

At the end of Burnham week you could also pick up some bargains at the Essex Boat Jumble on Sunday 31st August.
