Idris Lewis has been interested in sailing since 1976, when she was sat on a beach in North Wales watching sailing. She took a RYA course and then bought a dinghy. She then joined Eyott Sailing club in 1979.

Can you tell us about your first boat?

It was a Heron sailing dinghy number 2039, bought from a member of South Woodham Ferrers Yacht Club. We had the boat for 15 years, sold it, and then 10 years later it turned up again owned by one of the members of Eyott.

I now have a GRP Heron number 10010 which I race at Eyott Sailing Club. I have also recently purchased a very old Leisure 20 sailing cruiser which has been ashore for many years. It is a restoration project.

Where are the best places to go sailing in Essex?

For dinghy sailing Fenn Creek can be very challenging. Otherwise we enjoy pottering in the creeks off the River Roach, but all the Essex Creeks are fun.

How did you hear about Boatshed Essex?

I’d had previous dealings with Boatshed Portsmouth and personal knowledge of Steve. In February 2013 Boatshed helped me to sell a Sealine S25. I chose Boatshed for brokerage because of the wide marketing of the boat, the number of photos taken, the large database of buyers and “no sale, no fee”.

Do you have any advice for someone thinking of selling their boat?

Have the boat tidy before the photographs are taken!

And what do you like about sailing?

Worrying about wind, tide, mudbanks other boats, was the one thing I could concentrate on and not think about work.
