The last major regatta of the season begins on the Saturday of the August Bank Holiday Weekend. Burnham week is 24th to 31st August this year. If you’re not local there’s a choice of local places to stay in Essex.

This long running yacht regatta is organised by the Joint Clubs' Committee, including representatives from the four clubs in Burnham. Enjoy the excitement of close quarter’s tidal river racing in some of the most challenging sailing waters the East Coast has to offer.

There will be up to 8 days of first class racing for IRC Cruiser and one design classes plus dayboats and dinghies with over 100 trophies to win.

It all began in 1892 when some enthusiastic racing men from Erith on the Thames travelled to Burnham on the new steam railway and were impressed with the unpolluted river, deep-water moorings at all states of the tide, and a wide undeveloped estuary. In 1893 another sailing club arrived and the first regatta was arranged. Since 1973 the prizes have been glassware decorated with the Joint Clubs' insignia.

Of course there’s also something social on every night. From music, dancing and dinner nights to cocktails, barbeques, karaoke or fish and chips there’s something for everyone. For more details visit www.burnhamweek.org.uk
